The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on all gatherings in Dhaka's Bijoynagar area due to escalating tensions following the Jatiya Party's announcement of an upcoming rally.

The decision was announced in a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Md Mainul Hasan on Friday evening. The ban covers all types of gatherings, including meetings, rallies, processions, and demonstrations, in the vicinity of Pioneer Road and surrounding areas. This restriction, set to begin on Saturday, aims to uphold public order amid concerns after recent violent incidents, including an arson attack on the Jatiya Party's headquarters in Bijoynagar.

The unrest started after Hasnat Abdullah, a coordinator of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, made inflammatory remarks on social media, urging the removal of “traitors” within the Jatiya Party.

Despite the tensions, Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader confirmed at a press conference on Friday that their rally would proceed as planned.
