Tarique emphasizes BNP's reorganization as a step toward rebuilding the nation

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has underscored the need to reorganize the party with skilled, dedicated, honest, and proactive individuals to rebuild the nation, which has been severely affected by autocratic governance.
“We firmly believe that, InshaAllah, we will secure the people's support to form the government. However, rebuilding our country will only be possible if we properly restructure our party,” he stated during a virtual address at the BNP’s primary membership renewal program on Monday.
Tarique officially inaugurated the program by renewing his party membership online at an event held at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office. He paid a subscription fee of 20 taka (approximately 15 pence in British currency) for the renewal.
He highlighted the party’s presentation of a 31-point proposal aimed at reforming and rebuilding the state, emphasizing the need for unity and restructuring to achieve these goals. “To implement these reforms, we must bring talented, hardworking, and principled individuals into leadership positions,” he said.
Tarique stressed the importance of attracting capable and productive individuals to counteract the damage caused by autocratic rule, which, he said, has devastated all sectors of the country. “To rebuild the nation, we need such individuals at the forefront,” he added.
He called on party leaders to ensure the success of the membership renewal drive by mobilizing and uniting grassroots workers nationwide. “If we can better organize our grassroots, we will significantly strengthen the party,” he noted.
Tarique urged party members to dedicate themselves to revitalizing the BNP, commending their resilience and patriotism in the face of repression. He expressed confidence that the party’s reorganization would pave the way for implementing its 31-point reform agenda and rebuilding the nation.
Reflecting on the challenges faced by BNP members and other political activists under the Awami League government, he said, “A storm of repression has swept through the country, devastating every sector. Many of our leaders and workers have endured enforced disappearances, killings, and oppression, as have members of other political parties.”
He likened the current phase to a period of recovery after a natural disaster. “After any storm, people rebuild their homes and fields. Similarly, we have lost many colleagues to political repression, natural causes, or other reasons, and now we must reorganize and strengthen our party to move forward,” Tarique concluded.
