Bangladesh extended a warm welcome to US President-elect Donald Trump, reaffirming a commitment to work together on fostering new areas of cooperation as he assumes office. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs cited Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus’s congratulatory message to Trump, expressing confidence that both nations would collaborate to deepen their partnership. "We reiterate that belief and wish Donald Trump all the best as he begins his new term," the spokesperson stated.

Donald Trump, overcoming challenges including impeachments, criminal indictments, and assassination attempts, will be sworn in as the 47th US President on Monday. With Republicans in control of Washington, Trump aims to reshape key institutions, promising a "brand new day of American strength and prosperity, dignity, and pride." His first actions will include signing executive orders to expedite deportations, boost fossil fuel production, and reduce civil service protections. Trump’s prepared inaugural speech, shared by an anonymous official, signals a message of unity and optimism, according to the Associated Press.

In his November 6 congratulatory message, Prof. Yunus expressed a strong belief in the potential of the Dhaka-Washington partnership to explore new opportunities for collaboration and sustainable development. He praised Trump’s leadership, noting that his reelection reflects a deep resonance with the American people.

"I am confident that under your stewardship, the United States will thrive and continue to inspire the world. Bangladesh and the United States share a long history of friendship and collaboration across diverse fields," Yunus said, emphasizing the relationship’s growth during Trump’s earlier term.

Yunus highlighted the shared commitment to peace and inclusivity, adding that Bangladesh is eager to partner with the US in addressing global challenges for a stable and prosperous future.

Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain echoed this sentiment, noting that Bangladesh’s relations with major powers, including the United States, are consistent regardless of administration changes. He emphasized the importance of balanced relations with India, China, and the US, underlining Bangladesh’s focus on safeguarding its own interests while maintaining positive ties globally.
