Nitai Roy: Country to be governed by fairness, accountability and rule of law

Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury today said politicisation had damaged many institutions across the country over the past 17 years, stressing that the country would now be governed based on fairness, accountability and the rule of law.

He made the remarks while addressing a meet-and-greet and views exchange with heads of various district-level government departments at the conference room of the Chuadanga Deputy Commissioner’s Office, according to a press release.

During his first official visit to Chuadanga as the minister in charge of the district, Nitai Roy declared a zero-tolerance policy towards drugs and corruption and stressed the need to maintain law and order.

He also urged the administration to remain vigilant against misinformation and propaganda concerning fertiliser and electricity supplies.

The minister said the government was working to improve people’s welfare. He highlighted various programmes, including the distribution of Family Cards and Farmer Cards and canal excavation, being implemented for public benefit.

Referring to Nazrul Year, he said initiatives had been taken to organise cultural programmes across the country to promote communal harmony and enrich the nation’s cultural heritage.

The event, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Lutfun Nahar, was attended by Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ruhul Kabir Khan, heads of district-level departments and local dignitaries.
