Tarique Rahman claims the beneficiaries of the ousted fascist conspiracy plot

On Tuesday, BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman stated that supporters of the ousted fascist Awami League, who benefited during the authoritarian regime, are now conspiring within the country.
“A conspiracy is being hatched. The individuals who looted thousands of crores of taka and smuggled money abroad, along with those in neighboring countries who exploited Bangladesh for their own gain, will not remain idle. They will continue plotting,” he said during a workshop for party leaders via videoconference at the Sylhet District Shilpakala Academy auditorium.
The event, titled "31-Point State Structure Reformation and Public Engagement," was organized by BNP's Central Training Affairs Committee, with Tarique Rahman participating virtually from London.
He urged party leaders and activists to stay vigilant, adding, “Although the dictatorship has fled, its cronies remain, and they are still plotting. We must stay alert.”
Tarique Rahman reiterated that BNP is a pro-democracy force. "The people of the country stand with us because they trust that BNP will protect democracy and freedom of speech. This trust is why they look to us. As leaders and activists, it is your responsibility to uphold this trust," he said.
He emphasized the importance of preserving democracy, stating, "The continuity of democracy will ensure accountability. We will continue the democratic process at all costs. We must stand for democracy and keep it alive. Elections must always be held through a democratic process."
Tarique Rahman stressed that BNP is the largest political party in the country. “If the party suffers, the country and its democracy will suffer. Therefore, we must rebuild ourselves in line with the people’s expectations,” he added.
He expressed confidence that BNP leaders and activists, who have endured the autocracy and oppression of the ousted regime, would continue to persevere in the future.
Tarique Rahman pointed out the obstacles to democracy in Bangladesh, stating, “In the past 16 years, many have fallen victim to enforced disappearances and murders. Over 1,500 people were martyred in just July and August.”
He also mentioned that the 31-point state reform proposal could be implemented if representatives elected by the people are held accountable through elections.
