Students from seven DU-affiliated colleges gathered at Nilkhet, calling for the establishment of a separate university

Students from seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University gathered at the Nilkhet intersection in the capital, calling for separation from the university and the creation of an independent institution.

Starting at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, students from the seven government-affiliated colleges began gathering at Nilkhet in groups to stage their protest. Zakaria, a representative of the Seven College Reform Movement and a student at Kabi Nazrul Government College, stated, "We, the students of these seven colleges, are forming a human chain and protesting in Nilkhet today with the aim of implementing three specific action plans to achieve our demand for an autonomous university." 

The students outlined three key demands:

1. A reform committee should be established immediately to work on the creation of an autonomous public university for the seven colleges.
2. Within 30 working days, the reform committee must draft a detailed plan for establishing the independent university, consulting with teachers, students, and stakeholders from these institutions.
3. The reform committee should work with Dhaka University authorities to ensure that the current academic structure remains intact, preventing session backlogs or disruptions for existing students.

The seven affiliated colleges include Dhaka College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls' College, Eden Mohila College, Government Bangla College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Government Titumir College, and Kabi Nazrul Government College.
