Sagor Dewan and Faria Mahin address family accusations.
Sagor Dewan, known for his hit song "Malo Ma" from Coke Studio Bangla, along with his wife, Faria Mahin, has addressed false accusations made by her family. The couple, who got married on June 25, had been in a relationship for almost two years before tying the knot while Faria was studying at a university in New York. In an interview with *The Daily Star*, Sagor expressed his intention to surprise fans with their marriage announcement, but the situation escalated when Faria's brother, Omar Jayed, made a public post on Facebook on October 17. In his post, he alleged that Sagor was preventing Faria from contacting her family and was coercing her to give up her studies by restricting her access to a laptop. Omar also claimed that Faria was mistreated by the Dewan family and was left at her maternal home.
In response, Faria issued a statement on Facebook, denying her brother's allegations. She recounted an incident where she fell ill while visiting her aunt in Dhanmondi and had to go to the hospital. "I called my husband, but he was in an important meeting. My cousin and a distant relative admitted me to a hospital but abandoned me there. When Sagor arrived late at night to discharge me, he was upset to find no one there beside me," she explained. Faria further detailed how Sagor later took her to another hospital for treatment. "I strongly condemn this falsehood and hope everyone understands the situation clearly," she stated, adding that she had attempted to reach out to her mother but faced difficulties, including her father blocking her number. She emphasized her commitment to resolving family issues privately rather than airing them on social media.
Faria also addressed accusations regarding a bracelet she had given Sagor, clarifying that it was a personal gift from her elder sister and an expression of her love. "It was purely an expression of my love," she said, urging people to avoid taking sides based on incomplete information.
Disappointed with her brother's behavior, Faria remarked, "If my family genuinely cared about my well-being, they would have reached out to me directly instead of spreading lies." She underscored that her relationship with Sagor began before his rise to fame and that her marriage was not influenced by his popularity.
When Sagor Dewan for his perspective on the unfolding drama, he expressed agreement with Faria's statements. "It's unsettling that a brother would treat his sister this way," he commented, noting that Omar had threatened Faria over the phone and that her father had also blocked her number. Sagor explained that the couple decided to elope due to a lack of acceptance from Faria's family.
Recently, Omar filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Sagor, even though the couple had been married for four months. "Omar is quick to anger and has tried to threaten me, but it didn't work. Now, he's sending my wife blackmailing texts. I wish people wouldn't jump to conclusions based on one side of the story," Sagor stated. When asked about the possibility of legal action, Sagor expressed a preference to avoid conflict. "I've done my best to communicate with her family, but they refuse to listen to their daughter. I prefer not to take legal action, as it could hurt her brother and, in turn, my wife. I'll do whatever it takes to keep her happy."
Sagor rose to fame with his song "Malo Ma," which gained significant popularity on YouTube, trending both in Bangladesh and globally upon its release.
