ISKCON: Government Adopting a Strong Position, State Informs High Court

The state has informed the High Court about the actions it has taken in response to the violence surrounding the arrest and jail order of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a spokesman for the Sammilito Sanatan Jagaran Jote, amidst a petition seeking to ban the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), a group with which he is associated.
Deputy Attorney General Md Asad Uddin detailed the government's steps to the High Court bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury on Thursday.
He stated that the government is taking firm action, according to a bdnews24.com report.
Three cases have been filed in connection with the incident: one involving 13 suspects, another involving 14 suspects, and a third with 49 suspects. So far, 33 individuals have been arrested, and six more have been identified through CCTV footage. Police are continuing their investigation, and more details will emerge following interrogations.
The court emphasized to the state that it is crucial to prevent any loss of life or property and to reassure the public.
At this point, lawyer Md Moniruzzaman, who filed the petition to ban ISKCON, spoke. In response, the senior justice reaffirmed the government's actions and expressed hope that the petitioner’s concerns would be alleviated.
The court then refrained from issuing any order on the petition.
Supreme Court Advocate Moniruzzaman had filed the petition for the ISKCON ban with the High Court on Wednesday. He also requested the imposition of a state of emergency in Chattogram and Rangpur.
The High Court subsequently summoned the attorney general to hear the state's stance on the matter, and the state submitted its report on Thursday, a day after the summons.
