Djokovic withdraws due to injury, sending Zverev to the Australian Open final
Novak Djokovic retired due to injury after losing the first set 7-6(5) to Alex Zverev on Friday, allowing the German to advance to his first Australian Open final.

Zverev will face the winner of the Jannik Sinner vs. Ben Shelton match in Sunday's final as he aims for his first Grand Slam title. Meanwhile, Djokovic's quest for a record 25th major title continues, a year after his semi-final loss to Sinner at Melbourne Park.
Speculation about Djokovic's fitness arose before the match, as he entered Rod Laver Arena with his left thigh heavily strapped. However, he appeared unaffected early on. It wasn’t until late in the set that signs of discomfort became evident, with Djokovic moving sluggishly between points and expressing frustration toward his players' box. After losing the first set 7-6(5), Djokovic informed Zverev that he couldn’t continue and exited the court, met with boos from the crowd.
In his on-court interview, Zverev addressed the audience: "The very first thing I want to say is, please guys, don't boo a player when he goes out with an injury. I know everyone paid for tickets and wanted to see, hopefully, a five-set match.
"He has won this tournament with an abdominal tear, with a hamstring injury.
"So please, show some respect."
