China strongly rejects new US tariffs and pledges retaliatory measures

China has strongly condemned the new tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, vowing to take retaliatory measures to protect its interests.
Following Trump's announcement of an additional 10% tariff on Chinese imports, Beijing’s commerce ministry criticized Washington’s actions as "erroneous" and expressed "strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition." The ministry stated that China would file a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization, arguing that the U.S.'s unilateral tariffs violate WTO rules.
Beijing also warned that the tariffs would not resolve U.S. issues but instead harm economic and trade cooperation. It urged Washington to address its own problems, such as fentanyl, without resorting to tariffs as a pressure tactic.
Calling for dialogue and cooperation, China urged the U.S. to correct its approach, engage in fair negotiations, and manage differences based on equality and mutual respect. In a separate statement, China’s foreign ministry emphasized that "there are no winners in a trade war," warning that the tariffs would also negatively impact future bilateral cooperation on drug control.
