Chief Adviser instructs police to implement online case filing
On Monday, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus instructed police forces nationwide to introduce online case filing. He issued this directive during a high-level meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna, where the country's law and order situation was reviewed, according to a spokesperson for the Chief Adviser.
The meeting was attended by Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retired) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, and Home Secretary Nasimul Gani.
Currently, filing a First Information Report (FIR) requires a visit to the nearest police station, a process that is cumbersome and prone to abuse.
Professor Yunus emphasized the need for police to establish a dedicated phone number—similar to 999—that would allow citizens to file an FIR from anywhere in the country.
"This will alleviate the difficulties people face when filing a case," he stated, directing the national police chief, Baharul Alam, to launch the new phone number for online FIR filing as soon as possible.
Additionally, the Chief Adviser has asked the police chief to create a dedicated call center to assist individuals with online case filing.
"People who face difficulties with online filing can easily seek help from the call center," he said.
