Distributors of AL Leaflets to Face Arrest, Says CA’s Press Secretary

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, has issued a warning that anyone caught distributing Awami League (AL) leaflets will be arrested. "Supporters of the ousted fascist regime are trying to stir up issues by distributing leaflets. Our clear message is that those involved will be arrested," he stated during a press briefing yesterday. According to him, the leaflets contain content that could threaten law and order, justifying legal action against the distributors.

Shafiqul further alleged that AL activists were also spreading misinformation online, warning that they too would be held accountable. Citing Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus, he emphasized the need to curb extortion to ensure price stability of essential goods during the upcoming Ramadan and prevent market manipulation.

Speaking at the same briefing, held at the Foreign Service Academy, CA’s Deputy Press Secretary, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, dismissed claims of communal violence behind the recent killings of 23 minority individuals. These deaths had been highlighted in a report by the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad, a group advocating for religious minority rights.

Azad stated that the interim government took the Parishad’s claims seriously and instructed relevant police stations to investigate the cases, determine the causes and motives, and review legal actions taken. According to the Police Headquarters’ report, preliminary findings explained the circumstances behind 22 of the 23 deaths, confirming that legal measures had been taken. However, no information was found regarding one case.

Breaking down the cases, Azad reported that seven deaths were linked to theft and robbery, four resulted from personal or family disputes, three were tied to crimes such as rape, excessive alcohol consumption, or quarrels, two were accident-related, two stemmed from business conflicts, one was due to a clash, one involved a land dispute, and one was a suicide.

Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad and Assistant Press Secretary Suchismita Tithi were also present at the briefing.
