Home Affairs Adviser Blames Titumir College Students for Public Suffering
Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam has stated that ongoing protests by students of Government Titumir College are causing severe public distress.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting on law and order and security measures ahead of Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day, he remarked, "The students of Titumir College are making life difficult for the public. Their demands keep increasing day by day. You are also aware of who is behind this."
Several hundred students have blocked roads and the Mohakhali level crossing, disrupting train services and causing significant inconvenience to commuters.
According to witnesses, the students began their protest around noon on Monday, blocking the road in front of their college to demand university status. This led to severe traffic congestion in the Mohakhali Link Road area. They also chanted slogans in support of multiple demands, including the university status.
Later in the afternoon, around 4:30 PM, they took out a procession and set up barricades at the Mohakhali level crossing, bringing train movement to a standstill.
As a result, a long traffic jam stretched from Mohakhali to Jahangir Gate, forcing many commuters to abandon their vehicles and walk long distances.
Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge Russel Sarwar confirmed that additional police forces were deployed to prevent further escalation.
