Jahangirnagar University (JU) has expelled 64 current students and revoked the certificates of 73 former students for their involvement in attacks on protesters during the July Uprising.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan announced the decision at a press conference on Tuesday, following a Syndicate meeting held late Monday (August 4).

"A total of 229 students were implicated in last July’s attacks—99 of them were former students and 130 are currently enrolled," the VC stated.

"Of the current students, 64 have been permanently expelled due to the gravity of their actions. Another 37 have been suspended for two years, eight for one year, and one for six months. Twenty students were cleared of all charges," he added.

The VC also noted that the investigation report would be submitted to the International Crimes Tribunal to ensure justice against external attackers, principal instigators, and law enforcement officials who entered the campus in violation of university protocols.
