Vehicular movement on the Dhaka–Tangail–Jamuna Bridge highway has returned to normal, with no congestion reported, offering relief to homebound travellers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

As Eid is set to be celebrated on Saturday, many people are making last-minute trips to be with family and relatives. However, traffic pressure on the highway has eased, allowing vehicles to move smoothly.

According to the Jamuna Bridge Authority, 45,610 vehicles crossed the bridge in the past 24 hours, generating toll revenue of Tk3.27 crore. Of these, 13,715 vehicles were headed towards Dhaka, contributing Tk1.07 crore, while 31,895 vehicles travelled to the northern districts, generating Tk2.02 crore.

In the last five days, a total of 205,235 vehicles crossed the bridge, with toll collections reaching Tk15.32 crore. Police said traffic congestion began to ease around 8:30 pm on Thursday, and movement has remained smooth since then. Commuters are now experiencing uninterrupted travel along the four-lane highway from Gazipur to Elenga.

Syed Riaz Uddin, executive engineer at the Jamuna Bridge site office, said earlier traffic jams were caused by vehicle breakdowns on the bridge, but the situation improved significantly from Thursday night.

He added that 18 toll booths—nine on each side—are currently in operation, including separate booths for motorcycles, to ensure smoother traffic flow.

Muhammad Sharif, in charge of the Elenga Highway Police Outpost, said adequate law enforcement personnel have been deployed to ensure a hassle-free journey for Eid travellers.
