The Prime Minister offers Eid prayers at the National Eidgah.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman offered Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the Jatiya Eidgah ground in the capital this morning.
He arrived at the venue at 8:21am and later received President Mohammed Shahabuddin upon his arrival at 8:26am, exchanging greetings with him. Both leaders joined the country’s প্রধান Eid congregation at the National Eidgah at 8:34am.
The prayers were led by Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek, khatib of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, who also conducted the munajat seeking peace and welfare for the nation and the Muslim world.
A wide range of distinguished individuals—including the chief justice, cabinet members, Supreme Court judges, lawmakers, senior political figures, diplomats, and top civil and military officials—joined the congregation.
Later in the morning, Tarique Rahman, also chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, is scheduled to exchange Eid greetings with diplomats and citizens from various walks of life at the state guest house Jamuna starting at 10am.
He will first greet foreign diplomats, followed by cabinet members, MPs, eminent citizens, academics, ulema, artists, writers, senior civil servants, and representatives of civil society.
After the programme, the Prime Minister, accompanied by family members, will visit Sher-e-Bangla Nagar to offer prayers at the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
This marks Tarique Rahman’s first Eid celebration in the country in over one and a half decades, following his return from 17 years in exile in London on December 25 last year. He assumed office as Prime Minister after winning the 13th national election on February 12.
