No Rise in Militancy in the Country: Home Affairs Advisor
Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has stated that there has been no increase in militancy since the interim government took office. He made this remark in response to a journalist's question regarding a recent report published by The New York Times.
The statement was given on Wednesday afternoon during his visit to Badda Police Station. As part of his Eid engagements, he toured various police stations in the capital to extend greetings and participate in Eid reunions.
Addressing concerns raised in The New York Times report, Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury remarked, "I do not wish to comment on specific reports, but I can firmly state that there has been no rise in militancy in the country. Since assuming office, we have not witnessed any militant activity."
He further emphasized, "With collective effort and cooperation, we will address any issues that arise. If the public faces challenges, we will tackle them together."
Regarding the law and order situation, he noted, "There was a brief period of administrative transition after August 5, but since then, conditions have been improving. Revisiting past incidents will not be productive; instead, we should focus on progress. While we are reasonably satisfied with the current state of law and order, there is always room for improvement, and we must continue working towards further enhancements."
During his visit to the police station, the Home Affairs Advisor explained, "My purpose today was to exchange greetings with law enforcement personnel. While most people enjoy holidays, police officers remain on duty. I wanted to meet them, understand their concerns, and assess their challenges. The condition of police stations has improved significantly, but since many operate from rented buildings, certain issues persist. Establishing permanent facilities will resolve these challenges in the long run."
When asked about specific problems at police stations, he acknowledged, "You have seen for yourself that access roads to some stations are inadequate. These are ongoing issues, and we are working towards solutions. There is available land in Aftab Nagar, and if we can expedite construction there, relocating the police station will greatly benefit both law enforcement and the public."
