Dhaka hopeful about Yunus-Modi discussions in Bangkok: Foreign Secretary
The discussions between the two prominent leaders are vital for maintaining peace, stability, and fostering trade and commerce for both parties.

Dhaka remains hopeful about potential discussions between Bangladesh's Chief Adviser, Prof. Mohammed Yunus, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, scheduled for Thursday.
Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin expressed this optimism while addressing the media in Bangkok, Thailand, on Wednesday.
“We are optimistic about the talks and are continuing our efforts,” he stated as the BIMSTEC Summit commenced in Bangkok on Wednesday.
These discussions hold significant importance, given the strain in bilateral relations between the two neighboring nations following the ousting of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government through a mass uprising on August 5 last year.
Following Sheikh Hasina’s safe exile, India reportedly disseminated misleading information about Bangladesh and took controversial steps along the Bangladesh-India border, further straining diplomatic ties between the two historically close nations.
Against this backdrop, talks between the two key leaders are essential to restoring peace, stability, and fostering trade and commerce between both countries.
The BIMSTEC member states—Bangladesh, India, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and Thailand—are set to engage in discussions on various issues, including strengthening bilateral relations among the nations.
