IRGC Navy Spokesperson Mohammad Akbarzadeh Dies in Road Accident
Mohammad Akbarzadeh, the spokesperson and political deputy of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy, has died after a reported vehicle rollover in Kerman province, according to Iranian state-affiliated media.
The IRGC-affiliated Fars News Agency said Akbarzadeh was travelling from Yazd to Kerman in southeastern Iran when the vehicle carrying him overturned. Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby medical facility, where he later died from his injuries.
Iranian authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
The incident has been reported by several media outlets, including Iran International and RIA Novosti/Sputnik-affiliated platforms, and has drawn widespread attention from regional observers on social media.
Akbarzadeh was a senior IRGC Navy official who frequently commented on strategic issues, including the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's naval capabilities, and regional tensions involving the United States and Israel.
Earlier this year, the European Union imposed sanctions on Akbarzadeh over his alleged role in restrictions on maritime navigation.
His death comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States following recent exchanges involving IRGC naval and coastal assets, drone operations, tanker-related incidents near the Strait of Hormuz, and retaliatory military claims from both sides.
