DMP chief: Law enforcement remains on high alert against sabotage and strikes

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali has assured that law enforcement agencies are fully prepared to counter any form of sabotage, including hartals. Speaking to reporters on Friday after inspecting security arrangements at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair grounds in Suhrawardy Udyan, he emphasized that any attempts at sabotage, even by the banned organization Chhatra League, would be strictly dealt with. Several members of the banned group have already been arrested, and authorities are closely monitoring criminals recently released on bail from various districts. Regarding security at the book fair, the DMP chief highlighted the implementation of extensive measures, including a dedicated police control room for surveillance. He further stated that intelligence agencies would work alongside the DMP, ensuring continuous monitoring through regular intelligence surveillance and multiple layers of security checks at entry points. Watchtowers have been installed both inside and outside the fair, and the TSC-Doel Chattar route will be alternately opened and closed based on security needs. To enhance nighttime security, searchlights have been arranged, while restrictions have been placed on heavy vehicles to maintain order. Additionally, steps have been taken to regulate hawkers and prevent overpricing at food courts. Addressing concerns about provocative content, he mentioned that Bangla Academy has been instructed to ensure that no provocative books are available at the fair. Acknowledging traffic congestion, he urged citizens to refrain from blocking roads over minor grievances, emphasizing that law enforcement seeks to maintain peace without harming or being harmed. He also advised journalists to act responsibly and avoid publishing news that could cause unnecessary public panic, reiterating that both the media and law enforcement share the common goal of serving the public.
