China has provided $3.3 million to Myanmar to support small-scale development projects

The Chinese government on Tuesday (5 August) provided $3.3 million in cash assistance to Myanmar’s ruling regime for small- and medium-scale development projects, according to The Irrawaddy.
The funding comes from the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund, which China uses to support development initiatives across the region.
During a meeting in Naypyitaw, Chinese Ambassador Ma Jia and Myanmar’s Foreign Minister Than Swe signed agreements for 14 projects to be implemented by nine ministries. These initiatives span sectors including agricultural technology, science and technology, cultural exchange, legal and environmental cooperation, disaster management, and commercial navigation, Myanmar’s state media reported.
The fund is officially intended to “deliver tangible benefits for the people of the six member countries,” the report added.
