Ambassador Michael Miller, the Head of Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh, on Monday, praised the interim government’s commitment to a "peaceful and inclusive" transition, emphasizing its foundation on good governance, democratic values, and respect for human rights.

Speaking at an interactive session with Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus at the Chief Adviser’s Office, Miller stated, "We urge the government to uphold the rule of law, respect due process, and safeguard fundamental rights." He highlighted the importance of effectively communicating achievements and addressing challenges.

The Ambassador noted the strong and growing relations between the EU and Bangladesh, referencing recent high-level meetings and the initiation of discussions on a comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation Agreement. "The EU values its ongoing dialogue and cooperation with Bangladesh," he said.

Miller acknowledged Bangladesh's transition, marked by ambitions for significant reforms following recent political upheavals. Reflecting on the past, he expressed condolences for lives lost during the transition period and reaffirmed the EU's commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s democratic journey.

"We stand with Bangladesh as it embarks on reforms and prepares for democratic elections," Miller affirmed, adding that the EU emphasizes continued dialogue on human rights at all levels.

Regarding reforms, the EU is closely monitoring the progress of reform commissions and stands ready to support the implementation of their recommendations through funding, technical assistance, and expertise. "This process must be inclusive and transparent, fostering broad political consensus," the envoy remarked.

He also underlined the EU's "Team Europe" approach, ensuring coordinated and impactful interventions by EU member states. "We have many voices, but one unified message," Miller said.

The interactive session was attended by Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain and several ambassadors and representatives from EU member states. These included Christian Brix Møller (Denmark), Marie Masdupuy (France), Achim Tröster (Germany), Antonio Alessandro (Italy), Gabriel Sistiaga Ochoa de Chinchetru (Spain), Nicholas Weeks (Sweden), and others from the EU missions in Bangladesh and New Delhi.

Miller concluded by expressing the EU’s readiness to continue supporting Bangladesh's transition and reform efforts while emphasizing shared values and mutual cooperation.
