Eight killed in head-on collision between two buses in Sylhet
At least eight people were killed and 13 others injured after two passenger buses collided head-on on the Dhaka–Sylhet Highway in Sylhet on Friday morning.
The accident took place around 7:15am in the Kashikapon area of Dayamir under Osmaninagar upazila, police said.
Sherpur Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Anisur Rahman confirmed the incident.
According to police, a Unique Paribahan bus travelling from Dhaka to Sylhet crashed head-on with a Bengal Paribahan bus coming from the opposite direction.
Seven passengers died at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries after being taken to hospital. Local residents, Fire Service personnel and Highway Police members launched rescue operations immediately after the collision.
The injured were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where all 13 victims are receiving treatment. Police said several of them remain in critical condition.
Authorities have not yet been able to identify the deceased, and efforts are underway to confirm their identities.
The wrecked buses were later cleared from the highway, allowing traffic to resume. Police said legal action has been initiated in connection with the incident.
