Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman has departed Dhaka for Moscow on a three-day official visit to Russia.
The minister left on Sunday morning (7 June) and is expected to return on 9 June. Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir is accompanying him during the trip.
The visit is Dr Rahman’s first overseas tour since being elected President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). According to diplomatic sources, discussions are expected to extend beyond bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Russia, covering a range of regional, multilateral and global issues.
On the second day of the visit, Dr Rahman is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow. The meeting is expected to focus on matters of mutual interest and opportunities to deepen cooperation between the two countries.
During his stay, the foreign minister is also likely to pay courtesy calls on several senior Russian officials and exchange views on issues of shared concern.
