Four Killed in Attacks on Saudi Airport and Oil Facility
Four people were killed in separate attacks targeting an airport and an oil facility in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, authorities said.
Two people died and two others were injured after debris from an intercepted drone targeting a processing facility at Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oil field fell nearby, according to the kingdom’s Energy Ministry. Separately, an attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam on Wednesday killed two people and injured eight others, the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation said early Thursday.
“The attempted attack resulted in the deaths of two individuals, a Filipino and a Nepali, and injuries to two others,” the Energy Ministry said in a statement.
The incident at Shaybah also triggered a fire in a vehicle belonging to a contractor operating at the oil field, outside the facility’s perimeter. However, the ministry said oil field operations remained unaffected. A Pakistani and an Indian resident were also reported injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, the coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government said early Thursday that four drones had been intercepted and destroyed over Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.
On Wednesday, the coalition reported intercepting seven drones launched toward the kingdom, including drones targeting areas in the Madinah region, home to the Prophet’s Mosque.
Coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki said in a post on X that four drones heading toward Saudi Arabia had been intercepted and destroyed. In a subsequent statement, he confirmed that the interceptions took place in the Eastern Province and the Madinah region.
Al-Maliki later announced that another drone had been intercepted over the Eastern Province.
On Wednesday evening, the coalition confirmed intercepting a sixth drone launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels toward Saudi Arabia’s southern region, followed by a seventh drone targeting the Eastern Province.
