Colonel Intekhab Haider Khan, Colonel Staff of the Directorate of Military Operations at the Army Headquarters, stated on Thursday that the Army, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, remains vigilant to safeguard national security and maintain law and order across the country.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the Officers’ Mess in Dhaka Cantonment, he emphasized the Army’s relentless efforts in preserving law and order by preventing anarchy, fostering communal harmony, and ensuring the safety of foreign diplomats and embassies.

Colonel Haider Khan highlighted that the Army is actively working to secure key point installations (KPIs), protect vital public and private offices, and ease traffic congestion on major roads. Additionally, the Army has been instrumental in recovering illegal arms and drugs, apprehending drug traffickers, and taking action against individuals involved in criminal activities or instigating unrest.

He further noted that the Bangladesh Army is dedicated to upholding peace and stability in the Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) and ensuring the security of the Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMN) camps in Cox’s Bazar. The Army is also focused on safeguarding industrial zones to enable uninterrupted operations of mills and factories.

From November 29 onward, the Army recovered 28 illegal arms and 424 rounds of ammunition, resolved 67 incidents of unrest, and managed 13 road blockades in industrial areas. They also addressed 45 critical incidents, including political disputes and disturbances in educational institutions and the ijtema ground in Tongi. Rescue operations were conducted to save 92 children and 66 affected individuals from various congregation sites.

Colonel Haider Khan reported that the Army arrested 1,405 individuals linked to criminal activities, including 200 involved in drug-related offenses, and seized significant quantities of narcotics in joint operations.

He underscored the Army’s key role in ensuring the peaceful celebration of major religious and cultural festivals, such as Christmas Day, and in providing medical assistance to civilians injured during anti-discrimination protests.

To date, 3,589 people have received treatment at Combined Military Hospitals (CMH), with 36 still undergoing care. He also mentioned that Makbul Hossain, the father of martyr Abu Sayed, has been receiving treatment at CMH since December 10.
