Fakhrul: BNP vows to prosecute ousted fascists if elected to power
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir states that the BNP has been the primary victim of fascism.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated on Tuesday that his party, if elected to power, will prosecute what he referred to as "fallen fascists." Speaking at a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, he said, “BNP has been the primary victim of fascism. The oppression, torture, and enforced disappearances we have endured—who else has faced such brutality? BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami have suffered the most under this fascism.”
Fakhrul accused the Awami League regime of subjecting BNP leaders and activists to severe torture, claiming, “If we come to power, who else but us will prosecute the fascists? The process of accountability has begun, and there is no turning back. The trial of fascists will undoubtedly take place.”
He emphasized that a political government is responsible for ensuring justice in such cases but cautioned against rushing the process to avoid controversies. “Prosecution is a process that takes time. We will ensure that it is completed with integrity,” he added.
On Political Unity and Elections
Fakhrul acknowledged differences in perspective among political parties regarding the next election but downplayed the significance of such disagreements. “Each party has its own views and approaches, but there is a consensus among like-minded groups advocating for an immediate national election,” he said.
He highlighted that parties involved in the simultaneous movement with BNP, including left- and right-wing groups, have supported the call for prompt elections. “Even Jamaat-e-Islami has expressed similar sentiments, indicating no major conflict with BNP on this matter. Their leader recently stated the importance of holding parliamentary elections first, which aligns with our stance.”
On the July Revolution Proclamation
Fakhrul also addressed discussions surrounding the draft proclamation for the July revolution, which was shared by interim government adviser Mahfuz Alam. “This is a sensitive and critical issue that requires careful deliberation. We are consulting with other political parties and constitutional experts to evaluate its implications thoroughly,” he said.
He stressed the importance of comprehensive discussions before finalizing the proclamation, reaffirming the BNP’s commitment to addressing it with due diligence.
