Awami League leader lodges complaint against Muhammad Yunus and 61 others at the International Criminal Court: Report

A complaint has been filed against Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh's interim government, and 61 others at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Netherlands under Article 15 of the Rome Statute.

The complaint was lodged by Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, an Awami League leader and former Mayor of Sylhet, as reported by ANI. According to a video message shared on Awami League's verified Facebook page, Chowdhury stated, "From August 5th to 8th, in the name of a student movement in Bangladesh, leaders and workers of the Bangladesh Awami League, its affiliates, as well as Hindus, Christians, Buddhists, and the police force of Bangladesh, were victims of brutal genocide and crimes against humanity."

He added, "We have submitted all the facts and evidence to the ICC."

The 62 accused individuals, in addition to Yunus, include all members of Yunus's cabinet and student leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Alliance. Approximately 800 pages of documentation were attached to the original complaint, as stated in the video message. Extensive preparations are underway to file 15,000 additional complaints in the ICC, with affected individuals set to file them one by one.

It is also noted that a clash between the Hindu community and law enforcement occurred in Bangladesh's port city of Chittagong amid tensions over a Facebook post critical of ISKCON. This led to a joint police and army operation on the night of November 5.

India condemned the recent attacks on the Hindu community in Chittagong, stating that such actions would only escalate tensions within the community.

On August 5, a student-led movement ousted Bangladesh’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, after weeks of protests and clashes that resulted in over 600 deaths. Hasina, aged 76, fled to India, and an interim government led by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus was formed.
