One hundred and fifty more stranded Bangladeshi migrants returned home today from Libya. This repatriation was made possible through a collaborative effort involving the foreign ministry, the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), according to a press release from the foreign ministry. They arrived on a chartered Buraq Air flight (UZ 0222), which landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport this morning.

Upon their arrival, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the IOM welcomed the repatriated migrants at the airport. Most of these individuals had entered Libya illegally, hoping to reach Europe by sea, often influenced and aided by human traffickers.

Many returnees reported experiencing abduction and abuse during their time in Libya, as stated by the foreign ministry.

Officials from the foreign ministry encouraged the returnees to raise awareness in their communities about the dangers of illegal migration, especially the hazardous journey to Europe via Libya. The IOM provided each repatriated individual with a cash grant of Tk 6,000, along with food supplies, medical assistance, and temporary accommodation if needed.

The foreign ministry, along with the Bangladesh mission in Tripoli and the IOM, is working diligently to ensure the safe repatriation of Bangladeshi nationals detained in various detention centers across Libya.
