Train services between the northern region and the rest of the country have resumed.
Train communication between the northern region and the rest of the country has returned to normal 21 hours after the derailment of the Chilahati-bound Nil Sagar Express in the Bagbari area of Santahar, under Adamdighi upazila.
Rail services resumed around 12:00 pm on Thursday, when the Khulna-bound passenger train Simanta Express, departing from Chilahati, successfully crossed the accident site.
The derailment took place at approximately 2:30 pm on Wednesday, when the Dhaka-bound Nil Sagar Express, en route to Chilahati, went off the tracks in the Bagbari area.
Farid Ahmed, General Manager of Bangladesh Railway’s western zone, said rescue operations began immediately after the incident.
Later in the evening, two relief trains—one from Ishwardi and another from Parbatipur—joined the operation. Following overnight efforts, the derailed coaches were cleared from the tracks, with six bogies placed beside the railway line.
Although repair work on the track is still underway, authorities have confirmed that train movement can continue under the current conditions.
