Rain Washes Out Bangladesh’s Final Match, Ending Women’s World Cup Campaign
The final league match between Bangladesh and India in the Women’s World Cup ended in disappointment as persistent rain forced a no-result at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
After several interruptions, the game was reduced to 27 overs per side. Sent in to bat, Bangladesh posted 119 for 9, with Sharmin Akhter top-scoring with 36, followed by Sobhana Mostary’s 26 and Rubya Haider’s 13. Radha Yadav starred with the ball for India, picking up three wickets.
Chasing a revised target of 126 under the Duckworth-Lewis method, India made a solid start, reaching 57 without loss in 8.4 overs, before heavy rain returned and play was abandoned.
The washout left Bangladesh with one point, finishing seventh in the standings with three points overall—one win, one no-result, and five losses. Their only victory came against Pakistan, whom they defeated by seven wickets earlier in the tournament.
