Mustafizur Rahman Gears Up for Competitive Cricket Return After PRP Treatment
Bangladesh's left-arm pacer, Mustafizur Rahman, is preparing to make a comeback to competitive cricket following a period of rest. He recently underwent a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection on Wednesday, March 12. Despite going unsold in the player transfer process of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), the country's premier List A competition, he remains a sought-after name in the cricketing circuit.
For those unfamiliar, PRP treatment involves injecting a concentrated volume of a patient's own platelets into a targeted area to accelerate tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and alleviate pain. This minimally invasive procedure is widely used in sports medicine to aid recovery.
A member of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) medical unit confirmed the update to Cricbuzz, clarifying that Mustafizur has not sustained a new injury.
"He (Mustafizur) was given a PRP injection and will require some rest before returning to the field. He is not dealing with a fresh injury, but his previously operated left shoulder occasionally causes discomfort, which he manages while playing. PRP injections are typically used to stimulate healing and reduce pain through regeneration," the medical unit member stated.
Initially, it was expected that Mustafizur would make his return through the ongoing DPL. According to reports, he may still represent Prime Bank Cricket Club in the tournament.
"Let’s see when he regains full fitness. If he fits within our budget, we will certainly consider signing him," an official from Prime Bank Cricket Club told Cricbuzz.
Mustafizur last represented Bangladesh in the 2025 Champions Trophy. While he went unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, his prospects remain open, especially with some franchises dealing with injuries and player unavailability.
