Iran's President Pezeshkian: Trump Talks Peace While Issuing Threats

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump for sending mixed messages, accusing him of speaking about peace while simultaneously issuing threats.
"Which should we believe?" Pezeshkian asked during a naval ceremony in Tehran. "He talks about peace, yet threatens us with the most advanced tools of mass killing."
Pezeshkian affirmed that Iran remains open to nuclear negotiations with the United States but will not yield to intimidation. "We are not seeking war," he said.
His remarks came a day after Trump claimed that Iran had received a U.S. proposal regarding its nuclear program and suggested Tehran must act swiftly. "They know they have to move quickly or something bad’s going to happen," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, according to an audio recording.
However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi disputed Trump’s statement, saying in a post on X that Tehran had received no such proposal. "There is no scenario in which Iran abandons its hard-earned right to uranium enrichment for peaceful purposes," he added.
President Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s stance, asserting that the country would not "back down from our legitimate rights." He also pushed back against accusations that Iran destabilizes the region: "Because we refuse to bow to bullying, they say we are a source of instability."
The fourth round of Iran-U.S. talks concluded in Oman last Sunday, but no date has been set for the next round.
