On Monday, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus called for the establishment of a 'command centre' to closely monitor the country's law and order situation.
The Chief Adviser issued this directive during a high-level meeting attended by leaders from various law enforcement agencies, including Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retired) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Khuda Baksh Chiowdhury, Home Secretary Nasimul Gani, and heads of the Police, BGB, RAB, DMP, Coast Guard, and Special Branch. The meeting took place at the state guesthouse Jamuna.
Professor Yunus emphasized that security agencies must leverage the latest communication tools to ensure rapid intervention in any situation. "We must establish a command centre or command headquarters to coordinate with police and all security agencies," he stated.
He highlighted that the new command structure would facilitate intensive communication with all security agencies and police stations across the country. Additionally, he urged security chiefs to remain vigilant against any attempts to disrupt law and order, likening the situation to wartime. "This year is a critical one for the country, and we must not allow anyone to create chaos or anarchy," he added.
Professor Yunus also expressed concern about the ousted autocrat Sheikh Hasina's supporters, who, according to him, are spending large sums to instigate unrest and spread disinformation. "We must remain alert and fight against the dissemination of disinformation," he stressed.
The Chief Adviser also emphasized the importance of safeguarding human rights and taking special measures to protect religious and ethnic minorities. "Our global image will suffer if we fail to protect our religious minorities. We must be transparent in this regard," he said.
Furthermore, Professor Yunus directed the police to take firm action against extortionists to stabilize the prices of food and essential commodities during Ramadan.
Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam informed the meeting that 10 police teams have been formed to investigate murder cases related to the atrocities and killings by Sheikh Hasina’s security forces during the July and August incidents of the previous year.
The Chief Adviser instructed the police to expedite these cases and ensure no innocent individuals are wrongly implicated.
Baharul Alam also reported that Bangladesh has requested Interpol to issue a Red Notice for Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India during the mass uprising. "We've made the request, and we hope to receive a response soon," he said.
DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjad Ali mentioned that mugging and snatching incidents in the capital have decreased following heightened police security.
