ACC Seizes 23 Sacks Of Documents On Ex-Land Minister Saifuzzaman's Foreign Assets
Documents Expose Evidence Of Overseas Properties, Rental Income, And Money Laundering
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has seized 23 sacks of documents tied to former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed’s foreign assets and alleged money laundering.
The recovery took place early Sunday at the Sikdar residence in Shikalbaha, Karnaphuli, Chattogram.
ACC officials said the documents detail overseas property acquisitions, rental income, bill payments, and other financial dealings. An initial review revealed records of assets not only in the United Kingdom, United States, Singapore, and Dubai, but also in India, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Cambodia.
In a statement, the ACC confirmed that the papers had first been moved from the Aramit Group’s industrial facility in Kalurghat on September 16. They were kept at the home of Md Elias Talukdar, driver of UCBL Bank chairperson Rukmila Zaman, and later shifted to the residence of Osman Talukdar just before an ACC raid. The seizure was conducted in the presence of the acting union parishad chairman, police, and other witnesses.
Preliminary assessments point to evidence of house ownership, rental receipts, maintenance costs, and illicit fund transfers abroad.
Officials said the massive volume of documents will take time to examine thoroughly, after which the findings will be forwarded to ACC headquarters for further action.
