A crew member has died after jumping off an oil tanker owned by the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, which caught fire at Chittagong Port early today. The blaze ignited on the "Banglar Shourabh" at the outer anchorage of the port, just five days after another deadly explosion and fire involving the "Banglar Jyoti." The deceased has been identified as 59-year-old Sadek Mia, a general steward from Noakhali.

Bangladesh Coast Guard East Zone Media Officer Lt. Shakib Mehbub confirmed the death, stating that a coast guard team rescued 46 individuals while two others swam to shore. Among those rescued, 22 were pulled from the water, and 24 were saved from the tanker, according to reports from our correspondent in Chattogram.

One of the individuals who jumped into the water during the incident was found in critical condition near Patenga sea beach. He was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where doctors declared him dead. On September 30, three people lost their lives in an explosion on a fuel-laden lighterage vessel at Chattogram port.

BSC Managing Director Commodore Mahmud Malek suggested that the two incidents could be acts of sabotage aimed at disrupting the country's energy security, noting that both oil tankers were involved in lightering imported crude oil from larger tankers anchored at the outer anchorage.
