Eid-e-Miladunnabi Celebrated Today

The holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi, commemorating the birth and passing of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), is being observed across the country today with due religious solemnity.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in Makkah on 12 Rabiul Awal in 570 AD and passed away on the same date in 632 AD. The occasion is being observed as a national holiday.

The government has undertaken a wide range of programmes nationwide to mark the day. President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman have issued separate messages conveying greetings to Muslims in Bangladesh and around the world.

On Tuesday evening, the President inaugurated a fortnight-long “Siratunnabi (PBUH) Programme” organised by the Islamic Foundation at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

As part of the national observance, the national flag will be hoisted today at government, semi-government and autonomous institutions, private establishments and Armed Forces installations. Special prayers will also be held at mosques across the country, including the Bangladesh Secretariat Mosque. Bangladesh missions abroad will observe the occasion with due respect.

Authorities have instructed relevant ministries and departments to take necessary measures to ensure peace and maintain law and order during the celebrations.

The Islamic Foundation has arranged programmes from August 25 to September 8, featuring Islamic sermons, seminars and discussions, alongside competitions in qirat, hamd-naat, self-composed poetry recitation and Arabic essay writing.

The foundation will also organise Islamic cultural competitions for school, college, university and madrasa students, as well as a calligraphy exhibition and a month-long Islamic book fair at the east and south courtyards of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. Sirat souvenirs and supplementary publications will also be released.

According to the Islamic Foundation, prominent Islamic scholars will deliver sermons daily after Maghrib prayers until 10pm throughout the fortnight-long programme.

The activities will focus on morality, humanity, tolerance and peace in personal, family and social life, drawing on the teachings and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The Islamic Foundation and Bangladesh Betar will jointly hold a seminar in honour of the Prophet, while Bangladesh Betar will broadcast a special poetry recital.

Divisional, district and upazila administrations, city corporations, municipalities and the Armed Forces will organise discussions and doa mahfils in their respective areas.

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and other electronic media outlets have been requested to air special programmes, while newspapers will publish supplements highlighting the significance of the occasion.

Bangladesh Shishu Academy will arrange special programmes for children, including hamd-naat, discussions and essay competitions.

Major city intersections, road islands and light posts will be decorated with national and colourful flags, along with banners featuring the Kalima Tayyiba.

Improved meals will also be served at military and civil hospitals, prisons, government orphanages, child development centres and old-age homes as part of the observance.
