Gulistan bustling with activity as students and BNP supporters gather for processions
So far, there's no indication of an Awami League march.
The capital is bustling with activity after the Awami League announced plans for a protest march. On its Facebook page, the party stated it would hold the march in Gulistan, but by 1 p.m., there was still no sign of Awami League supporters in Paltan, Zero Point, or Gulistan.
Instead, various other political groups have been gathering intermittently, arriving with processions and chanting slogans. Public transport has been running normally, and traffic congestion remains typical for a weekday. Despite this, security forces are visibly on alert throughout the area, with a water cannon and an APC stationed at Zero Point.
So far, no Awami League activists have been seen at the designated protest sites.
Arif Rabbani, participating under the banner of the organization "Kafela of July," expressed strong opposition, stating, "The allies of fascists are conspiring from abroad, attempting to destabilize the country. Instead of acknowledging past massacres, they are seeking to create unrest. The Awami League is viewed with disdain by the Bangladeshi people. Their program today will be resisted at all costs."
In the meantime, Awami League’s official Facebook page has been actively promoting the protest march scheduled for Sunday, offering instructions for supporters.
The Facebook page further announced a 3 p.m. protest at Dhaka’s Zero Point, Shaheed Noor Hossain Square, in honor of Shaheed Noor Hossain Day, November 10. The protest aims to remove anti-democratic elements and reestablish democratic governance under Awami League leadership. The post encouraged party members and supporters of Liberation War values to participate, and urged all district and sub-district units to observe the central program.
Simultaneously, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has announced a counter-gathering at the same location.
