Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain believes leg-spinner Rishad Hossain will play a pivotal role in their upcoming ICC Champions Trophy campaign.

Rishad was one of the breakout performers for Bangladesh in their previous ICC event, the T20 World Cup last year, where he finished as the joint third-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets in seven matches.

Although he has been effective in the shortest format, the right-arm leg-spinner has at times been expensive, conceding over six runs per over in his seven-match ODI career.

“Rishad, our wrist-spinner, can really lift the team's spirit if he bowls well because we all know how good the wickets are in Pakistan. A wrist-spinner is particularly crucial in this tournament,” Najmul said in a video released by the ICC.

“I’m excited to see Rishad's performance and how he bowls in this tournament," he added.

Soumya Sarkar shared the same view.

“A wrist-spinner is always a game-changer, so we are looking forward to Rishad,” said the left-handed opener, referring to the 22-year-old spin prodigy.

While Najmul and Soumya praised Rishad’s bowling, pacer Tanzim Sakib emphasized his contributions with the bat, especially in finishing innings.

“I believe Rishad Hossain, our leg-spinner all-rounder, will play a very important role for the team. He consistently provides breakthroughs and delivers crucial runs with the bat when needed,” Tanzim remarked.
