BCB launches first-ever Women’s BPL T20
The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) women’s wing committee on Wednesday formally announced that the Women’s Bangladesh Premier League (WBPL) T20 will be held from 3 to 15 April 2026.
The WBPL will be Bangladesh’s first franchise-based T20 tournament for women, marking a significant milestone in the professional growth of women’s cricket in the country.
The inaugural edition will feature three franchise teams, comprising top national players along with promising emerging cricketers.
Local players will be chosen through a draft system to ensure balanced squads and maintain competitive strength across the teams.
Franchises will also have the opportunity to recruit overseas professional players, allowing for international participation and raising the tournament’s overall standard.
Rubaba Dowla, BCB director and chairperson of the women’s wing, will serve as chair of the WBPL Governing Council, which will supervise all organisational aspects of the tournament.
Details regarding franchises, draft rules, format, fixtures, venues, broadcast arrangements and commercial partnerships will be announced later.
