Chief Adviser describes national election and referendum as a historic opportunity to shape a new Bangladesh.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today termed the ongoing general election and referendum a historic opportunity to build a “new Bangladesh,” describing the day as one of profound joy and national liberation.
“Through the process that began today, we have completely rejected the past. At every step, we now have the opportunity to build a new Bangladesh. Let us celebrate the rebirth of Bangladesh today. Let the entire nation observe this day as a festival,” he said.
He made the remarks after casting his vote at the Gulshan Model School and College polling centre in the capital this morning.
Highlighting the significance of the referendum, Prof Yunus said that while electing candidates is crucial, the referendum carries equal importance. “Casting votes for candidates is very important. However, the referendum is equally important,” he noted.
He urged all citizens to take part in the referendum to help shape a new Bangladesh. “This is a day of immense happiness in my life. It is also a day of great joy and a moment of liberation for the people of Bangladesh,” he added.
Referring to the broader electoral process, he said it marks the end of past hardships and the beginning of a renewed national framework.
Prof Yunus also observed that people across the country were celebrating the day like a national festival, likening the atmosphere to that of Eid.
