Poll finds 61% of Americans say US war against Iran is a mistake.
A new poll released on Friday shows that a majority of Americans view the US military’s use of force against Iran as a mistake.
According to the Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos survey, 61 percent of respondents believe the decision to use military force was wrong, while fewer than two in ten consider the US actions in Iran to have been successful.
Around four in ten respondents say the effort has been unsuccessful, and a similar proportion believe it is still too early to judge the outcome.
The Washington Post noted that the war’s unpopularity is comparable to public sentiment during the height of violence in the Iraq War in 2006 and the Vietnam War in the early 1970s. However, support remains strong among Republicans, with 79 percent saying the decision was justified.
The poll also found widespread concern about potential consequences of the conflict. About 61 percent believe it could increase the risk of terrorism against US citizens, 60 percent think it raises the likelihood of a recession, and 56 percent say it may strain relationships with US allies.
