Political Leaders Pledge Unity to Protect July Uprising Legacy

Leaders of major political parties meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today affirmed their unity in resisting any attempts to undermine the July Uprising.

They described the recent attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inquilab Mancha and a potential independent candidate for Dhaka-8, as part of a broader conspiracy to sabotage the uprising.

The meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna included representatives from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, and the National Citizen Party (NCP), according to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing. Attendees included BNP Standing Committee members Salahuddin Ahmed and Major (Retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed Bir Bikram; Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar and Assistant Secretary General Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair; NCP Convener Nahid Islam and Chief Organiser for Southern Region Hasnat Abdullah; Inquilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber; and Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul.

Chief Adviser Yunus described the attack on Osman Hadi as premeditated, part of a deep-rooted conspiracy supported by powerful forces. “The conspirators aim to prevent the election. This attack is highly symbolic. They want to demonstrate their strength and derail election preparations. All of this must be confronted together,” he said. He also noted that intelligence indicates the conspirators have expanded their network and deployed trained shooters.

The parties have agreed to convene an all-party meeting in the coming days to protest the attack under the initiative of Inquilab Mancha. They also emphasized strengthening communication among political groups to maintain anti-fascist unity and called for strict operations to recover illegal weapons before the elections.

BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed stressed the importance of unity, saying, “In this situation, we must remain united and refrain from blaming each other under any circumstances. We must raise a united voice against the conspiracy. We will not tolerate any evil force. Regardless of political disagreements, we must stay united for the nation and the legacy of July.” He also called for intensified action against illegal arms and conspirators.

Jamaat leader Mia Golam Parwar added, “Recent statements have fueled internal blame, giving our opponents an advantage. We must remain united as before. Narrow party interests should not divide us. All parties must reaffirm their commitment to national unity.”
