Chief Adviser pays tribute to martyred intellectuals
Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Sunday paid rich tributes to the martyred intellectuals on the occasion of Martyred Intellectuals Day.
He laid a wreath at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur at around 7:22am. Following the tribute, he stood in solemn silence for a while to honour the memories of the nation’s illustrious sons.
A smartly turned-out contingent of the Bangladesh Armed Forces rendered a state salute as the bugle played the Last Post.
After paying homage, the Chief Adviser exchanged greetings with the Chief Justice, advisers of the interim government, senior civil and military officials, injured valiant freedom fighters, and family members of the martyred intellectuals.
At the final stage of the Liberation War, these brilliant sons of the soil were killed in an attempt to cripple the newly emerging Bangladesh intellectually.
Earlier, President Mohammed Shahabuddin also paid rich tributes by placing a wreath at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial at around 7:04am.
