Fire at South Korean auto parts factory leaves 10 dead, 59 injured, four missing
A fire erupted around lunchtime on Friday at a car parts factory in Daejeon, killing 10 people and injuring 59 others, including 25 seriously, the country’s safety ministry said on Saturday.
Four workers remain missing, and authorities have activated a central disaster response system after President Lee Jae Myung ordered all available resources to be deployed for rescue and firefighting efforts.
According to Yonhap News Agency, one victim was found on the second floor of the factory, while nine others were discovered on the third floor.
The safety ministry said the blaze was brought under control by 11:48pm on Friday.
Fire officials identified the factory’s operator as Anjun Industrial, which produces engine valves and supplies companies including Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation. Company representatives were not immediately available for comment.
