Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday expressed hope of building the “desired Bangladesh” through collective efforts and prayers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Speaking to reporters after exchanging Eid greetings with people from all walks of life at his official residence Jamuna, he said, “We pray to Allah this Eid that we can build the Bangladesh people aspire to.”

The prime minister said his government is committed to creating a country that reflects the expectations of its citizens. He also paid tribute to those martyred in 1971 and 2024, and stressed the need for unity beyond political differences to achieve that vision.

“We seek cooperation from all, regardless of party affiliation, to build the Bangladesh we envision,” he added.

Earlier, he exchanged Eid greetings with members of the diplomatic corps, politicians, distinguished citizens and people from various walks of life at Jamuna. The programme began at 10:00am and continued until around 11:30am.

He also greeted former Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus during the event.

In the morning, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman offered Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the main congregation at the National Eidgah. The prayers, led by Baitul Mukarram National Mosque’s Khatib Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek, were held at around 8:34am.

Cabinet members, lawmakers, senior political leaders, civil and military officials, and people from different walks of life also joined the congregation.
