No Room for Overcharging After Fuel Price Cut: Adviser

Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan on Thursday stated that bus operators have no justification for charging extra fares following the recent reduction in fuel prices.

“Strict action will be taken against those who continue to overcharge,” he warned while speaking to the media after inspecting the Sayedabad bus terminal in Dhaka earlier in the day.

As the Eid-ul-Azha holidays approach, thousands of travellers have already begun leaving the capital by various modes of transport to reunite with their families.

Eid-ul-Azha, one of the most significant religious festivals for Muslims, will be celebrated across the country on 7 June.

Fouzul, who also serves as the railways adviser, assured that necessary measures have been implemented to ensure a smooth and hassle-free Eid journey. He added that authorities are actively addressing any irregularities and tackling traffic congestion with seriousness.

On 31 May, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources announced a reduction in fuel prices for the month of June. Under the revised rates, diesel is now priced at Tk102 per litre (down from Tk104), petrol at Tk118 (previously Tk121), and octane at Tk122 (down from Tk125). Kerosene has also been adjusted to Tk114 per litre.

This follows a Tk1 per litre reduction in May, while fuel prices had remained unchanged in April.
