Prosecution to file ICT petition seeking ban on broadcasting Hasina's statements
Previously, on October 17, the International Crimes Tribunal issued an arrest warrant against Sheikh Hasina.
The prosecution plans to file a petition with the International Crimes Tribunal seeking a ban on the dissemination of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s “inflammatory remarks” via media and social platforms.
Prosecutor Abdullah Al Noman confirmed that the petition would be submitted on Thursday to the tribunal, chaired by Justice Golam Mortuza Majumder.
On October 17, the tribunal issued an arrest warrant for Sheikh Hasina, the Awami League president, marking the start of proceedings related to allegations of mass killings during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in July and August.
The protests, which began in July as a student-led movement opposing public sector job quotas, escalated into one of the deadliest episodes in Bangladesh’s history.
Amid the mass uprising, Hasina fled to India on August 5 and has remained there since. Subsequently, Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus assumed office as head of the interim government on August 8, following Hasina’s ouster.
