Measles vaccination begins today across four city corporations.
To combat the growing measles outbreak in the country, authorities have expanded the special Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign.
From today, the programme is being carried out simultaneously in Dhaka North and South City Corporations, as well as in Mymensingh and Barishal city corporations.
Dr Mohammad Shahriar Sajjad, deputy director of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), said the campaign aims to vaccinate 1,219,957 children aged between 6 months and 5 years across these four metropolitan areas. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, a nationwide effort to curb the spread of measles has been underway since April 5.
In the initial phase, the campaign is being implemented in 30 upazilas across 18 districts, prioritizing areas with higher infection rates. Under the programme, all children aged 6 to 59 months will receive the MR vaccine.
Vaccination will be administered ежедневно (except weekly holidays) from 9:00am to 5:00pm at designated centres. The schedule has been advanced from the earlier plan, with the campaign set to expand nationwide from April 20.
