Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has extended greetings to members of various ethnic communities living in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) on the occasion of their traditional festivals, including Biju, Sangrai, Baisu, and Changkran.

In a message issued today, he conveyed his heartfelt greetings and congratulations to those celebrating these cultural festivities alongside the Bengali New Year and Chaitra Sankranti, also offering his warm wishes for the New Year.

“The religious and social festivals of all communities—regardless of religion, caste, or ethnicity, whether in the hills or the plains—are an integral part of our collective national celebrations,” he said.

He expressed hope that the festivities would usher in peace and happiness in national life.

Highlighting the importance of diversity, the Prime Minister noted that the traditions, culture, heritage, and history of ethnic groups in the hill regions are inseparable from Bangladesh’s national identity, enriching it with diversity, beauty, and pride. He added that the spirit of harmony and unity among people is deeply rooted in the country’s folk traditions.

He further observed that this tradition of coexistence has strengthened Bangladesh’s image globally through communal harmony.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, he said it remains dedicated to ensuring equal progress, development, security, and the protection of fundamental rights for all citizens, including small ethnic communities, as guaranteed by the Constitution.

“Every citizen, whether living in the hills or the plains, enjoys equal rights as a Bangladeshi,” he added.

The Prime Minister also expressed hope that these traditional festivals, along with the Bengali New Year, would bring peace, happiness, and prosperity to all.
